Harry Hurst Middle School’s original gymnasium was built in the 1950’s and had operated with little modification for more than 60 years. Although new facilities had been constructed at other schools, the space restrictions of the campus did not allow for a new structure. After careful consideration the renovation of the existing facilities was the best option available. The St. Charles Parish School Board had allotted $1.4 million to modernize the facility for future use. The scope of the project included a complete renovation of the exterior entrance and lobby area, addition of larger men’s and women’s restroom facilities, new concession space, new gym floor, stainless steel hand rail system, new lockers, air conditioned locker rooms, as well as additional instruction space.
